Russ Piva (aka StereoRuss) is a Hamilton-based musician and podcast host, who’s spent the better part of two decades chasing great songs in basements, studios, and anywhere with a halfway decent PA system.
Drawing equal inspiration from longform interviews, late night YouTube rabbit holes, and the kind of conversations that only happen after soundcheck, Russ created Inside the Music with StereoRuss, a podcast where artists and producers talk shop, life, and the strange moments we all experience as musicians. The show lives somewhere between nerdy deep dive and hangout, with guests ranging from local legends Luke Bentham of The Dirty Nil, Adam Bentley of Echo Myron Marketing, and Superstar Crush to industry icons Warren Huart of Produce Like A Pro, 4x JUNO winner Aysanabee, and Rick 'The Temp' Campanelli. The project grew out of years playing in bands, understanding the importance of creating great storytelling content. Armed with a couple of SM57s, a few cameras, and too many questions about guitar pedals, Russ has carved out a lane that feels equal parts thoughtful and fun loving. He serves on the Hamilton Music Advisory Team, the 93.3 CFMU FM Programming Committee, and consults on podcast strategy. He's recorded in living rooms, classrooms, and has now graduated to recording out of the legendary Catherine North Studios, building a catalogue of conversations that musicians and music fans actually want to listen to. When he’s not behind a mic, he's playing guitar with like minded funky musicians or checking out the latest band in town. |
